Vorverstärker
DAVE HILL DESIGNS EUROPA 1 offers a unique mic/line preamp. After many years of evolution and modification, David Hill felt his prototype was finally complete and turned it into a commercial version before officially introducing it to the public.
The Europa 1 offers all the classic features of a dedicated mic preamp, including a phase inverter, phantom power and an instrument input. The input stage allows selection of the mic input impedance (200kohm, 2.2kohm or 300 ohm), with the instrument input impedance (Hi-Z) set at 1.2 Mohm. The gain is adjusted in 1 dB steps, with a range of 0 to +66 dB for the microphone input and 0 to +30 dB for the instrument input. The gain level is indicated by the LED display. The Europa 1 is also equipped with a third-order low-cut filter (18 dB/oct.) that allows you to choose from eight different cut-off frequencies: 148, 130, 117, 100, 81, 63, 48, 33 Hz and Off.
In addition to these classic functions, the Europa 1 adds some absolutely unique options. Don't look elsewhere, no other hardware or software tool offers them. These are Speed, Even Harmonics and Odd Harmonics. Speed changes the speed of the preamp response. The parameter is adjustable from 0 to 8. The higher the value, the faster the response. Even/Odd Harmonics controls the even and odd harmonics. Both are adjustable from 0 to 8. The lower the value, the more transparent the response.
All rotary knobs on the Europa 1 are notched to allow the user to easily reproduce all settings. The extremely accurate level display has a clear reference value (0 VU = +4 dBu) and indicates the level between -25 and +20 dB. With a balanced connection, the maximum output level is +24 dBu and the maximum input level is +24 dBu at 0 dB gain. This makes it possible to use the Europa 1 also in the mix to give colour to the signals.
